Please write in English, because the Emacs maintainers do not have
translators to read other languages for them.
In GNU Emacs 20.7.1 (i386-mandrake-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
of Mon Oct 2 2000 on debris.mandrakesoft.com
configured using `configure --prefix=/usr --libexecdir=/usr/lib

- --infodir=/usr/share/info --with-x-toolkit i386-mandrake-linux'
Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
Hi!
First of all, scuse me for my bad english, (again). Second: let me
tell you who I am.
A few weeks ago, I send you an emacs bug report. The "error" was the
special characters such as "tildes", "acutes", etc. Some exaples are á, é,
ñ, etc. The bug report is in the "tail", of this message. We had a little
discusion about the name of GNU/Linux, and free software, too. ;-)
Well, now that you have remembered me, (I hope that), I will tell you
something great: I think I have discovered the cause of the error.
I will explain you what to do for reproduce the bug.
Believe me that this is something hard for me, 'cause I'm not a very
good english talkative (like you can see).
Well, like you know, this error shows at any time. Some users (spanish,
german and french ones), that have the same "bug", coment me that, when
it shows, the faster way to "repair emacs" is moving the cursor out and
in the emacs window. After that, all works fine. But I have realized that
the error always occurs when the cursor is out of the emacs windows.
For your understanding, I'll give you a "touchable" example: I love to
work in WindowMaker. In this GNU/Linux window manager, you can change
betwen two or more workspaces pressing [alt+1], [alt+2], etc,
respectively. I accustom to execute emacs in the workspace 1, and the
other applications, (xconsoles, wordtranslators, etc), in the workspaces
2 end 3. Now, if under this circumstances I want to "reproduce" the
emacs bug, I simply go to workspace 1, put the cursor on emacs, and write
something. (it will works perfectly!). Then, I press [alt+2] (that
goes to workspc 2), and put the cursor in a place that I know that will
be out of emacs window in workspace 1, (for example in a corner).
Then, I press [alt+1] (goes to workspace 1). Well, the cursor is now
out of emacs, but emacs is the single aplication on that workspace,
whereby the emacs window will be "active", so I can write on it.
THERE IS WHEN TE BUG OCCURS !! : If I press a "tilde" or a acute
character (like á, é, ñ, etc), a "beep" sounds on the speaker, but
the character don't appear. Now if I move the cursor inside emacs
window, the BUG ends and all is right.
This error, don't only happen with WindowMaker, or changing the
workspaces. For example, now I'm writting this email in the mail
client XFMail. You can configure it for writting the message in your
favorite text editor. Mine is emacs. So, when I write a new mail, I
may press a button to execute emacs, and write my mail on it. Then,
if the button is out of where the emacs window will appear, the bug
will happen because the cursor will be out of the window. And you can
experiment the bug in the same way using, instead of xfmail button,
the Menu of kde, gnome, Wm, etc... (I think that is more common ;-)
Well, ¿Do you undertand something that I had the honor to say you? ;-)
Please, if is not, tell me. I hope not to be annoying with this bug
report, but I consider that this error is bad enough..... Well, I'm
saying good bye. But before of that, i want to give you my
congratulations for gnu free software, and all the things that GNU is
making the ordinary people to consider. I would like that something
recemblance occurs in other matters than only in the computer's one....
Well, don't worry if you don't understang the last paragraph. Good bye!

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:
Well, first of all, congratulations for emacs. It's the best! I program, edit,
translate, study, make the coffee and drive my car with it. But really, it is
helping me very very much.
Second, scuse me for my bad english. I'm from Uruguay and because is of my langu
age that I am writing this report. Well, I will explain you what it's happening
to me with emacs. I have already read de emacs' BUGS file, but nothing like my p
roblem is in that.
I don't know if this is a bug, (or at least an emacs bug), but I think tha emacs
should be perfect in its version 20, so.... Please scuse me if this is not a re
al bug, but my "linux-morality" command me to do this.
I have this spanish keyboard. As you will know and unlike english, in spanish it
's very important to use the tildes and the "acutes" like this (á, ñ, etc). Well
, I carefully had configured my keyboard. It's works perfectly in all the applic
ations. In emacs, too, but with a little exception: sometimes, (I don't know why
or when), in emacs, the tildes and the "acutes" (the spannish caracters), stop
working. When I press some of this keys, a beeps sounds but nothing appears in t
he screen. But the strange thing is that is really easy to fix the problem: some
times clicking in the menues, or doing an meta-x (alt-x) and alt-g. After I do t
hat, this "spacial characters" work fine. My keyboard is a genius k7000. It's ne
w (was made last year). It's a very standard keyboard. I don't konw if to the ot
her people who write in spannish, have the same problem. I should ask in some em
ail list.
This "error", appears only in emacs. I work in emacs with the X windows system.
I don't know if this happens in emacs on the console or in xemacs.
Well, I think this is all. Please let me know what can be the problem, or how to
fix it. It doesn't hurt me, but I'm doing this only for the perfection of emacs
.
Thanks!
