It's quite clear that the `terminal window' for less is analoguous to
a single emacs window for view-mode in this case. So it really doesn't
matter whether the OP was talking about such explicitly or not.

This is what's known as a `bad interface,' and I'd be willing to bet
that far more people are confused and annoyed by it than pleased by it.

Just because the original author was confused, or had bad judgement,
doesn't mean we have to slavishly maintain the result without
modification!
It's there _anyone_ out there who think's view-mode's current behavior
is non-brain damaged? Anyone?

It isn't a bug in the sense of `an unintended result,' but it most
certainly is a bug in the (more useful) sense of `behavior that's
bad and unnecessary.'
