The conclusion I reached was that, although free software is
invariably better than its restricted counterparts, free tutorial
documentation is usually less good than (the best of the)
commercially published alternatives.
I doubt this is true. My guess is that *both* the free and
commercially tutorial documentation are bad, and have much the same
deficiencies.
Why this should be would likely make a good PhD thesis.
Yeah, and I think my statement would make an even better PhD thesis :)
But maybe it's got a simple explanation: Folks who write computer
manuals are already top-notch programmers, so they can't fit into the
shoes anymore of the newbies.
