isearch in long string + tab space expansion

In GNU Emacs 20.7.2 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
 of Wed Jun 21 2000 on nb.mar

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:


using the buffer i include here (i use it in 80columns x 57row
x configuration),
when i interactive search "pre" I encounter a wrong tab expansion
(in same other example this can be more annoyng)... maybe you can test
in emacs 21 ...

Note the string started by  tab  and contain a  tab  inside it
I try to reproduce the same problem in _25_ row mode,
and after same "adjust" i was able to reproduce the bug anymore.
but i never encounter the problem in console text mode. [i try to do it]

insted i find it sistematically and in variouse way during X session,
so i send you the bug report.
