I discovered a small but annoying problem with dead keys under X11:
they are well used by emacs only if the mouse is over the buffer zone
(ie. a buffer, a status line or the mini-buffer). If the mouse is
outside of the window or even over the title bar, dead keys are
ignored.
For instance, I here use key "^" then "e" to get a "ê" (e hat), but
now, if I move the mouse over the title bar and hit the same keys, I
just get an "e" without the hat.
If I use C-h k then hit ^ when the mouse is in the buffer zone, emacs
does not react until I type another key. But if the mouse is not in
the buffer zone, the answer is message "dead-circumflex is undefined".
So I guess that emacs doesn't always treats dead-circumflex the same
way depending on the location of the mouse. And this is really
annoying for me (and for most french emacs users I guess).
A friend of mine also noticed this problem, he has a different
confiuration. I also tested various windows managers and the problem
persists.
With the hope it will help,
Sincerely yours.
