Been using it for a week.  Now I know why they're not the default.
Problems noticed: often prompted in the minibuffer with "~" instead of
the trusty "~/", and "/x/x/[cursor]filename" instead of
"/x/x/[cursor]", sometimes starts pinging things when it should know
better.  Too damn horny. Seems I should move its magic stuff to C-u
C-x C-f instead of the other way around [thus restoring default
behaviour].  OK, C-h k C-x C-f shows me a plethora of options to
tailor... snore.
