Thanks much for digging into this and providing a patch.  

Will this make it into a commit as well ?

And yes this being a QEMU specific issue (or at least manifesting there) makes 
sense now.  This explains why on the official NetBSD mirrors there can be sparc 
0.21.1 packages built - i.e. I can only assume the folks who built that used 
real hardware (and not QEMU).
