If you provide a patch, the FSF will need a copyright assignment
from you and your employer before they integrate your patch.

You can write the FSF Assignment clerk at address@hidden and
ask about making an assignment for gdb.

Copyright assignment does make more work on top of writing code,
documenting it, and testing it.  But it's necessary for the FSF to
maintain clear title to the code in the GNU Project.
