Was it a typo in Pauls's message? - I interpreted it as though he had  
seen it.

If you mean something being a directory when it shouldn't, yes I have  
seen it, and in the variation I saw, it is not Bison related, but a  
fault in the installation of the Mac OS X 10.4 development package.  
Two years ago I sent an email to warn Akim about it, and how to work  
around it, but I did not get any reply.
