autoconf status report?

Hi folks,

Autoconf being a pretty important package :), I wanted to ask you
explicitly if you could please write a couple of paragraphs about the
recent past and/or near future of its development.  (Per my mail to
gnu-prog a few days ago.)

The ones we've already received are at

in case it helps to see them.

I know it's that time of year, but wanted to get the request in.
Hopefully it will not be a big deal ...

(Many of you maintain other packages too.  I'd love to get as many
packages covered as we can.)
